Track & Field Week Ahead (May 13-17)

Please see this week’s schedule below:

Tuesday (5/14): Practice 2:30-4:00 p.m at MCCPS.

Wednesday (5/15): MCSAO North Division Meet at Village from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Please note the slightly later start time than previous meets. Student-athletes will have a study hall at 2:30 and be dismissed at 3:15 p.m. All members of the team should arrive at the track between 4:00-4:15 p.m.

Track & Field Week Ahead (May 6-10)

Thank you all for your support during our first meet. Please see below the schedule for next week:

Tuesday (5/7): Practice 2:30-3:15 p.m. Please note the 3:15 dismissal time.

Wednesday (5/8): Practice 2:30-4:00 p.m at MCCPS.

Thursday (5/9): MCSAO North Division Meet at Village from 4:00-6:00 p.m. 

All student-athletes should arrive no later than 3:45 to warm up and stretch. 

There will be no practice on Friday, May 10 as originally planned on the schedule. We were able to swap it for a practice on Tuesday, May 28 (4:30-6:00 p.m) at the track which will help us prepare for the League Championship on May 30. Updated schedule attached for your reference.

Navigators T & F Week Ahead (Apr 22-26)

I hope you enjoyed the school vacation week and holiday with your families. Below is the schedule for the week ahead:

Tuesday (4/23): Practice at MCCPS from 2:30-4:00 p.m.

Wednesday (4/24): Practice at MCCPS from 2:30-4:00 p.m.

Friday (4/26): MCSAO North Division Meet 1 at the Village Track from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Please note student-athletes have a noon dismissal on Friday. We will plan to meet at the track at 4:00 p.m. We will be taking the team photo for the yearbook before the meet begins.

T & F Navigators Week Ahead (Apr 8-12)

Please find this week’s schedule below:

Tuesday (4/9): Track practice 4:00-5:45 p.m at Village.

Address: 93 Village St, Marblehead, MA 01945 

Please use the athletics field entrance on Jersey Street.

Student-athletes will have a study hall at MCCPS from 2:30-3:15 before dismissal. We will meet at the track at 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday (4/10): Track practice 2:30-4:00 p.m at Marblehead Charter. 

As a general rule of thumb, all members of the team should have a refillable water bottle with them for all practices and meets. Thank you in advance.

Track & Field Updates

I wanted to welcome you and thank you for registering your child(ren) as members of the spring Track & Field Team at MCCPS.

This will be my fifth season coaching the Charter Track & Field Team. Ms. Wilson & Mr. Mangano will join me as track coaches this season. They both have coached other teams this year and have been an asset to the athletics program. We are collectively looking forward to working with this enthusiastic group of runners. We plan on the team having a lot of fun this season while learning and improving along the way. Please never hesitate to reach out to us at any time.

As you know, we will practice regularly at Charter on Tuesdays & Wednesdays each week during the 2:30-4:00 p.m time slot. Student-athletes are required to bring proper clothing and footwear with them to school on track days. Prior to all practices, students are advised to watch the weather to dress appropriately while also having a refillable water bottle with them.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, April 2) the track team will have practice from 2:30-4:00 p.m. They will not practice Wednesday as it is a half day.

Please send in any outstanding paperwork and/or fees to me tomorrow. I am still waiting on our schedule for the Village Track. Please note any day we are up at the track for a practice and/or meet, students will be dismissed at 3:15 and meet over at the track.

As you know, we are fortunate to have our regular season divisional meets at home right in Marblehead at the Village Track. We are a member school of the Massachusetts Charter School Athletic Organization (MCSAO). There will be a total of nine schools that will be competing in the North Division in Marblehead. I have emailed you a list of schools in each division.

Please note that the MCSAO League Championship will be held at Madison Park High School on Thursday, May 30 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. If it were to be postponed, the make-up date is set for the following day, May 31. This will be the culminating event of our season. There are 28 schools that will be participating in this event in 2019. The student-athletes who qualify are notified soon after the divisional meets have concluded. We will have a bus leaving MCCPS at 2:30 p.m that day and any team member who wishes to attend is welcome to accompany us regardless of whether he/she competing or not. 

Please let me know if there are any emails that you would like me to add to the distribution list that will include all communication regarding the team going forward. Prior to each week during the season, you can now expect a “Navigators T & F Week Ahead” email which will outline our schedule for that week. This should help us all stay on the same page, especially with the way the practice location fluctuates and the track availability changes. 

For any last minute scheduling or traveling updates, I use the “Remind” Communication Tool. I have emailed instructions on how to join our group on Remind, which is a one-way text messaging and email system. With Remind, all personal information remains completely confidential. Teachers will never see your phone number, nor will you ever see theirs. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions about this.

As always, the most up-to-date scheduling information can be found on the Events Calendar  on the MCCPS website as well as our Navigator Athletics website. Varsity Basketball Week Ahead (Mar 4-10)

The Navigator Pep Rally on Friday was a lot of fun! We were happy to recognize the great achievements of our basketball teams and get the entire school excited about the playoffs. I couldn’t be more proud of what we have accomplished as a team this year and am looking forward to what is to come. We have a very busy final week ahead for our basketball teams. Below is the schedule:

Monday (3/4): Boys practice 4:00-6:00 p.m at Salem Academy

Address: Read Gymnasium, 16 Lynch Street, Salem, MA 01970

If we have a snow day, practice will be on, but we will need to meet in Salem. Pick up and drop off will need to take place there. If anything changes, I will let you know.

Tuesday (3/5): Boys Semi-Final Playoff vs. Bridge Boston at 5:30 p.m.

This “home” game will be held at Salem Academy. Tickets at the door for this event are going to be $3 for students and $5 for adults.

I will bring the boys to the game in a van. I plan on leaving MCCPS at 4:00 p.m. The team can have a study hall and get homework done between 3:15-4:00 p.m. I will also be driving the van back to the school following the game and can take any of the boys back with me. 

If the boys win Tuesday, they would advance to the MCSAO League Championship game on Friday. Please come support us!!

Wednesday (3/6): Girls practice from 5:30-7:00 at Salem Academy.

I will bring the girls back to MCCPS following the practice and you can pick them up at the school at 7:15 p.m. If it is easier for you to pick them up at 7:00 in Salem, that is fine too.

Thursday (3/7): Both teams have practice at the JCC. 

We will meet at the JCC.

Boys practice 4:45-6:00 p.m.

Girls practice 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Friday (3/8): MCSAO League Championship at UMass Boston.

D2 Girls Title Game: Marblehead vs. Community Day at 3:30 p.m.

D2 Boys Title Game: TBA vs. Roxbury Prep Lucy Stone at 4:45 p.m.

The students have a noon dismissal Friday. Basketball players should pack a lunch and will stay at the school before the bus leaves MCCPS at 1 p.m.

Tickets for this event are $5 for students and $7 for adults.

Return time will depend on if the boys are playing or not. Remind will be used as always.

Saturday (3/9): Charter Cup Day 1

Girls have a 7:30 a.m arrival time.

Game 1 vs. Roxbury Prep Dorchester at 8 a.m.

Game 2 vs. Brooke 8 at 9:40 a.m.

Boys have a 10:30 a.m arrival time.

Game 1 vs. Roxbury Prep Lucy Stone at 11:20 a.m.

Game 2 vs. Roxbury Prep Dorchester at 1:00 p.m.

Sunday (3/10): Charter Cup Championship Sunday.

Game times TBA for the morning. This will be a single elimination day where we are guaranteed at least 1 game but need to win to advance. You can see the different time slots for the games in the updated schedule.

Navigators Basketball Week Ahead (Feb 25-Mar 3)

Below is the basketball schedule for this week:

Monday (2/25): Girls practice 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Tuesday (2/26): Girls playoff game at McAuliffe at 4:45 p.m.

The bus for all of the student-athletes will leave MCCPS at 2:15 p.m. I anticipate the bus returning at approximately 7 p.m following the game. I will send out a Remind update Tuesday evening.

There will be no boys practice Tuesday because of the game.

Wednesday (2/27): Boys practice 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Thursday (2/28): Both teams to split the practice time:

Girls practice 2:30-3:40

Boys practice 3:40-4:45 p.m.

Team dinner at Bill Sullivan’s house following at 5 p.m.

The kids had a great time at the first team dinner, so Bill has generously offered to open up his home for an end of season team dinner before the teams compete in the Charter Cup this weekend. Please let him know if you would like to help out in any way.

JV Basketball Week Ahead (Feb 11-15)

This will be the final week of the JV basketball season. Thank you all for being a part of the program this winter. I have enjoyed watching our student-athletes learn the sport and watch their interest in basketball reach new heights. The teams have improved tremendously since the season begun.

Please see the schedule below:

Monday (2/11): Girls practice 4:30-6:00 p.m.

Wednesday (2/13): Boys practice 4:30-6:00 p.m.

Thursday (2/14): Home games vs. Community Day at MCCPS.

Girls 5 p.m.

Boys 6 p.m.

Girls will meet in the gym at 4:30 and boys should be there no later than 5:30 p.m. Please confirm with Coach Mangano if your child is staying at the school following 3:15 dismissal.

Thursday (2/14): Games at the JCC TBA

As I have told the teams, we still have our normal time slot rented at the JCC (4:30-7:00 p.m) even though we finished our regular season schedule a week early. 

I am trying to schedule a non-league game for the teams to play, and I will be in touch this week to confirm with you one way or the other.

Charter Cup Update: This tournament schedule will be released this week and I will share the welcome packet with you. Each team will play a minimum of two games on Saturday, March 2 and one game on Sunday, March 3.

Playoff Update: Both teams have clinched a spot in the playoffs! This is a major accomplishment for our program and I will send out more information about the playoffs when semi-final games are officially finalized.
