Track & Field Updates

I wanted to welcome you and thank you for registering your child(ren) as members of the spring Track & Field Team at MCCPS.

This will be my fifth season coaching the Charter Track & Field Team. Ms. Wilson & Mr. Mangano will join me as track coaches this season. They both have coached other teams this year and have been an asset to the athletics program. We are collectively looking forward to working with this enthusiastic group of runners. We plan on the team having a lot of fun this season while learning and improving along the way. Please never hesitate to reach out to us at any time.

As you know, we will practice regularly at Charter on Tuesdays & Wednesdays each week during the 2:30-4:00 p.m time slot. Student-athletes are required to bring proper clothing and footwear with them to school on track days. Prior to all practices, students are advised to watch the weather to dress appropriately while also having a refillable water bottle with them.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, April 2) the track team will have practice from 2:30-4:00 p.m. They will not practice Wednesday as it is a half day.

Please send in any outstanding paperwork and/or fees to me tomorrow. I am still waiting on our schedule for the Village Track. Please note any day we are up at the track for a practice and/or meet, students will be dismissed at 3:15 and meet over at the track.

As you know, we are fortunate to have our regular season divisional meets at home right in Marblehead at the Village Track. We are a member school of the Massachusetts Charter School Athletic Organization (MCSAO). There will be a total of nine schools that will be competing in the North Division in Marblehead. I have emailed you a list of schools in each division.

Please note that the MCSAO League Championship will be held at Madison Park High School on Thursday, May 30 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. If it were to be postponed, the make-up date is set for the following day, May 31. This will be the culminating event of our season. There are 28 schools that will be participating in this event in 2019. The student-athletes who qualify are notified soon after the divisional meets have concluded. We will have a bus leaving MCCPS at 2:30 p.m that day and any team member who wishes to attend is welcome to accompany us regardless of whether he/she competing or not.

Please let me know if there are any emails that you would like me to add to the distribution list that will include all communication regarding the team going forward. Prior to each week during the season, you can now expect a “Navigators T & F Week Ahead” email which will outline our schedule for that week. This should help us all stay on the same page, especially with the way the practice location fluctuates and the track availability changes.

For any last minute scheduling or traveling updates, I use the “Remind” Communication Tool. I have emailed instructions on how to join our group on Remind, which is a one-way text messaging and email system. With Remind, all personal information remains completely confidential. Teachers will never see your phone number, nor will you ever see theirs. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions about this.

As always, the most up-to-date scheduling information can be found on the Events Calendar  on the MCCPS website as well as our Navigator Athletics website. I always go there first to update athletics information. Thank you in advance for your support. All of us are excited to start what should be a very successful season!

Sincerely,
Matt Young
