Girls Varsity Basketball Information

I am looking forward to returning as the coach of the girls varsity basketball team this season. I had coached the team three consecutive seasons prior to taking last season off. I am happy to be working with the team once again, and this great group of girls we have assembled.

We will officially start our season on Thursday, November 29, with a practice at MCCPS from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Please plan to pick up in the back parking lot outside of the gym doors for all practices.

Prior to the Thanksgiving break, I sent home a packet (double-sided) of the required forms to participate. These include all forms I need for the student-athletes to be eligible for the basketball season, including a sportsmanship contract that our league requires. If you have any questions about these forms, please let me know. The forms are due by Thursday, but I will gladly accept them early tomorrow or Wednesday. Please note the girls cannot practice without their forms complete and submitted to me.

The girls will receive hard copies of the practice and game schedules at school this week. We are very fortunate to play all of our home games at the JCC in Marblehead, located at 4 Community Road. Please note that for all league games, the girls will play second at home, but first on the road. I have done my best to build the best schedule possible for all of our student-athletes. You will be updated with any changes that come up along the way.

Prior to each week throughout the season, I will send out a “Navigators Week Ahead” email. This will highlight the important information for that week including game times, bus times, addresses and anything else you need to know.

I am also happy to let you know that the team is excited to be taking our annual field trip to the Boston Celtics-Dallas Mavericks game on Friday, January 4! I will be sending home a permission slip for this event and I hope all the girls will be able to attend. Please save the date. If you know that your child will be unable to attend, it will be extremely helpful if you could let me know well in advance. I look forward to this being a team building experience for the student-athletes and I am sure a great time will be had by all.

If you have any questions before the season begins or want me to add any additional emails to this distribution list going forward, please let me know. Thank you in advance for all of your support this season!

Sincerely,
Matt Young
